It's a matter of perspective. I wouldn't say one is better car than the other - they're both still Audis. It really depends on what you want/need. The S models have bigger/tuned engines, higher top speeds, better brakes/tires, bigger wheels, sportier exteriors/interiors, and cost more. The S-Line versions of the 'A' cars offer much of the same styling as the 'S' cars, but without many of the performance upgrades. This can be a happy medium for some people. Cheers.

S is the upgraded version of the A.

Example: S5 is more expensive than the A5.

S is the sport version of the A. It has 2 banks, and is decked out like a race car on the inside. A is the more "luxury" sedan for everyday driver. All S models are quattro's. The B5, B6, B7 A4's are turbocharged 4 cylinders. If it is a B5 S4 it has a twin turbocharged V6, if its a B6 or B7 S4, it has a V8. The new C7 S6 is a double turbocharged V8. The car is overall more powerful then the A lines. The B8 S4s have a supercharged v6 TFSI engine.
