I am thinking about purchasing an Audi A6 3.0 quattro Avant. Any ideas about good/bad years, quality of the A6 v A4. A friend has had all sorts of problems with his 1.8 A4 sedan.
The price seams right but is this related to # of problems.
I am a long time VW owner and would like to grow up a little.

Anything newer than 2000 is a great choice I don't see many problems other than the CV boots getting worn out or the frontend suspension componets wearing out. the timing belts are an issue if they are not changed at around 60K

the 2d answer isn't far off the mark - the A6 TDi is a robust automobile, even though it needs to have had an fairly recent cambelt, yet additionally they be afflicted by some different issues; Wheel bearings can placed on relatively badly, yet are not ferociously costly to variety as long as you do no longer use substantial sellers. Gearboxes provides worry, yet that's unusual, and if the 'field is comfortable & quiet, you mustn't have any matters. the great project is the gasoline equipment - The Bosch LH injection pump is services to failure at around 5 - 8 years, and till you shop around, you ought to truly finally end up eith a £a million,500 restoration invoice (around £3,000 from a substantial broking).
