So for my first car I really want an audi a4. Common problems? How expensive are they to maintain? Reliability? I am in ohio and we can get some rough winters and they are awd. Thus is mostly a commute to school and back. Any other suggestions? I want something with reliability and luxury.

You don't want it. Are you good with fixing electronics? It is an electrical nightmare. If you are not then $$$ down the toilet. I know the 2002 audi are cheap as hell ($4000-$6000), but you better are off getting a non luxury all wheel drive cars like a suburu. If you will regularly commute get something with better fuel mileage and cheaper/less hectic to maintain.

When I was your age I had my parents buy me a brand new Porsche 911 and a Lexus IS350 since I wanted a sporty and luxurious cars. I regret wasting money on that and should have just invested it in stocks (I would have made hundreds of thousands in profits if I put more money into my stocks at the time). People will judge you (negatively usually) with a luxury car even if it is an old cheap entry luxury car. Unless you can do the maintenance yourself it will be expensive to fix.

Find a WRX Subaru. Stay away from the high mileage Audi. You don't know enough about cars and you don't have the finances to keep a 14 year old German car on the road. Rough winters are only going to make it worse.

Don't listen to these people. I own one and I can tell you it's great. I've only had one problem and it was only 140$ to fix nothing big though. I've had mine for 2 years. I bought it used for 5 grand with 90k miles. Honestly the car is luxurious, great handling and it feels great to drive. It is a v6 and you do have to put 91 gas so if your going far it's a gas killer and maintainence isn't that expensive.

I noticed audi is trust wearthy wen they are new. When when they reach 120, 000 miles they usually end up messing up constantly. If you like luxury and trust wearthy id recomend acuras or the lexus es300. It all depends on how well you take car of your cars. Good luck to you.

The EASIEST AUDI to own is the one with ONLY a timing chain! They have more than ONE chain! AUDI represents the best technology EUROPE has to offer! THEY NEVER RUST! Many have SONAR in the fenders to avoid accidents (A8's from 2001 forward) They will take ALL ABUSE given with a SMILE, but they will DIE if improper oils and fluids are used! The FACTORY AUDI OIL comes from either RAVENOL or PENTOSIN< the supplier of ALL AUDI, BMW and BENZ fluids. When you DEVIATE from these oils and use VALVOLINE EVEN ONCE< you risk making oil clogs and ruing the oil spray jets, and high speed oil control pressure valves! USUALLY< a properly kept audi will last to 500k miles with only NEW BRAKE PADS and TIRES through most of it;'s life! AUDI chose the BEST material in making it's cars, and usually the only problems come in when they are frequent visitors to the OIL CHANGE CENTERS that install wrong fluids and DESTROY them slowly! I have them out there with 300k + miles, and ALL original sensors, converters, exhausts and more! The ones that need TIMING BELTS must have a $250 KIT installed by a PROFESSIONAL at 100k mile intervals! AUDI technology is VERY close to NASA tech in a CAR! IT is NOT a push rod BUICK or CHEVY here! NO PRESTONE may be used either! RAVENOL OIL is good for TWO FULL YEARS between changes, and it costs about the same as the REGULAR WAX BASED oils that send many cars to the JUNK YARD! AND other than the BRAND NEW FORD MUSTANG< it is the ONLY car that uses a DOUBLE BALL JOINT suspension. They win nearly EVERY race they ever enter with TURBO DIESEL and now with HYBRID technology as well! They JUST won an award for the AUDI A3, a TOTAL TECHNOLOGY LEADER mildly priced. <<>> you can do your OWN inspection o\if you are NOT car savvy! OPEN THE HOOD and flip the OIL FILLER CAP over! if you see ANY crusty, wavy waxy or FUDGY coatings, this car has SLUDGE deposits and will NOT BREATHER properly! It is NO BIG DEAL! All this CONTAMINATION is easily removed with one or two motor treatments, and the POWER and DURABILITY will be restored!! ALL FLUIDS need to be changed at about 90k intervals, even the BRAKE and STEERING fluids, to get to that 500k mile and MORE mileage! PENNZOIL ULTRA EURO oil now carries a 15 year 500k mile OIL warranty. I have repaired LOTS of cars from all over the world, and AUDI and BMW win my heart every single time! They are NO compromise companies that build cars to run at 140MPH al day long and not even BREATHE HARD! EUROPEAN injection technology from BOSCH leads the world, and nearly EVERY CAR on the road has BOSCH injectors in it! They are BUILT to take it!! NO VALVOLINE or PRESTONE may be used in them EVER, and regardless of age, they make a GREAT first car! Labor rates on even GM cars is outrageous! Keep the numbers 1-800-ALL-AUDI and 1-800-ALL-EURO and BLAUPARTS in your phone book! BLAUPARTS sells RAVENOL and all audi wear items and updated parts for LESS! They even rent repair tools as well! EXPECT to have ZERO issues but BRAKE PADS and Oil changes and TIRES for most of it's life! ALL CARS at 100k miles need something! Even LEXUS needs a $500 TIMING BELT JOB done! It is EXPECTED from REAL cars that are not disposable clunkers.

Aayyee! !! Thanks everyone!! My dad wanted me to get this over a sweet *** truck. Silverado 2500HD 6.0l v8. I do need 4x4 tho, I too live in ohio. .. and rough winters don't even scratch the surface, last winter we got 10in... overnight! So either get a few 5k weights and shove them in the back or find a 4x4 version for like 5000 more >_>

Great car until you get more than 100K miles on it. Then it's a money pit. constant repairs and VERY expensive
